Community

Alameda Point was originally an airport site known as Airdrome, and was built in 1927, one of the largest naval air stations in the world at the time. It became a major operational hub during WWII, and following a decline in activity after WWII and the Cold War, the station was officially closed in 1997. In 2013, the U.S. Navy transferred 1,379 acres of the former base to the City of Alameda, which has been developing a variety of projects. These projects include transit-oriented community with housing, commercial space, parks, and waterfront access, while preserving historic buildings and protecting local wildlife.

The city of Alameda, California spans 2,200 acres, and in it contains many fun activities to do with friends and family! With events like the West End Flea Market held on Saturdays, or the Friday Art Walk, there is always something to do in this bustling city. If you're looking to enjoy some time indoors there are places like the Historic Alameda Theatre and Cineplex, Rhythmix Cultural Works, and the Alameda Museum are all great places to have fun and even learn something while doing it! Our Alameda storage facility is also a Kure It certified location, actively participating in efforts to raise money for cancer research. Kure It, established in 2007 by US Storage Centers Chairman Barry Hoeven, was founded with the purpose of raising money for innovative research directed at types of cancer that receive little or no funding for research.
