Murfreesboro experiences the four seasons.  The hottest month of the year is July and the coldest month of the year is January.  The annual precipitation is 53.75 inches and the average annual snowfall is 6 inches.   Residents of this area that participate in the various sports year round are likely in need of storage units to store their sporting equipment.

At one time Murfreesboro was the capital of Tennessee until Nashville was named the capital in 1826. Murfreesboro also played a major role during the Civil War with the Battle of Stones River taking place there in 1862.

Prior to World War II Murfreesboro had an economy that primarily agriculture based.  After World War II, this area became more diversified and included industry, manufacturing, and education.

The top employers in Murfreesboro are Rutherford County government, Middle Tennessee State University, State Farm Operations Center, Alvin C. York Veterans Administration Medical Center, Middle Tennessee Medical Center, Verizon Wireless Call Center, Murfreesboro City government, General Mills/Pillsbury Company, Johnson Controls, Inc., MAHLE Tennex, and Lewis Brothers Bakeries. There are also two malls within the city limits – an indoor mall known as Stones River Mall and an outdoor lifestyle center known as The Avenue Murfreesboro.  The Historic Downtown area also offers a variety of stores and restaurants.  Construction is underway for The Murfreesboro Gateway which consists of 400 acres of Class A office space.

Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) plays a big role in the economy of Murfreesboro by being one of the top employers in the area, but also attracts many students to the year.  MTSU has a yearly enrollment of over 20,000 students.  MTSU was ranked by Forbes as one of the top 100 public universities in 2009.

In addition to MTSU the other colleges and universities located in Murfreesboro include Tennessee Technology Center at Murfreesboro, Commercial Driver Institute Inc., and Middle Tennessee Barber and Styling College.

The colleges and universities located in Murfreesboro bring a large number of residents to the area as a student.
