Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) plays a big role in the economy of Murfreesboro by being one of the top employers in the area, but also attracts many students to the year. MTSU has a yearly enrollment of over 20,000 students. MTSU was ranked by Forbes as one of the top 100 public universities in 2009.
