Moving Our Lawn Care Equipment to Storage

This summer, we decided that we're going to travel more, which means we won't have time to take care of our own lawn. I put a lawn care company on a contract for three months to basically take care of all aspects of our lawn care while we're out and about. This is probably not going to be an every summer thing, though – just a last hurrah before we settle down and start a family and all that!

So instead of selling all the lawn care supplies that would just be in our way this summer, we decided to put them into a Torrance Self Storage unit. We looked around town for a while before we decided exactly where our Torrance Self Storage unit was going to be, but we eventually settled on the US Storage Centers Torrance Self Storage location on Crenshaw. The US Storage Centers Torrance Self Storage location is a great option for us for several different reasons.

One of the reasons that we chose this particular Torrance Storage location was its prices. For a smaller unit that was the right size for our lawn care equipment, it wasn't all that expensive at all. Also, US Storage Centers Torrance Self Storage has pay ahead and auto payment options, which are going to be great for us this summer since we'll be out of town so much! I'm trying to automate every bill I possibly can so that we don't miss any while we're gone, so being able to automate this one bill is great for us!

Also the US Storage Centers Torrance Self Storage location on Crenshaw is really close to our home, which made it easy to get our lawn care equipment there and will make it easy to get everything back out of storage when we're ready to have it back at home.

Besides those two things, the US Storage Centers Torrance Self Storage location had great customer service when we walked in. During our search for good self storage locations, we encountered a couple of local self storage places that had less than fabulous customer service, which was not impressive. The Torrance Self Storage location, however, did have great customer service and was really easy to work with. That alone would have made the decision for us, almost, but the great price and the accessibility of the Torrance Self Storage location really made it easier to decide on the US Storage Centers Torrance Self Storage location as the location of choice for our summertime storage unit.

Finding Room for My Mower

I finally decided to tackle my own mowing and lawn care this year, and I'm glad that I did. I really have enjoyed taking care of the lawn since I was a kid. I just haven't had time to deal with it while I've been starting my own business in these past few years. Now, though, I'm ready to start taking care of my own lawn, so I've decided to buy a mower and some other basic lawn care equipment.

The problem is that in all the years I've owned my home, I haven't needed a place to put a mower or other lawn care equipment. So there's not room in my garage at the moment because there's just a lot of stuff covering up the space that would otherwise be used for a mower and other lawn care supplies.

I've been looking recently for ways to clear out the garage to find a little space for my mower and weed eater, and I finally settled on the US Storage Centers Torrance Storage location on Crenshaw as the perfect option for what I'm looking for. I looked at some other self storage places where I can keep the extra stuff from my garage to make room for my lawn care stuff this summer, and none of them really measure up to the US Storage Centers Torrance Storage location.

The Torrance Storage location I've chosen is great for a few different reasons. Here are the things that made me choose this location rather than other storage options in town:

Customer Service: The first thing I noticed about the US Storage Centers Torrance Storage location on Crenshaw was that they have great customer service. The manager was friendly as soon as I called to check on their prices. Manager at other places were often a little curt, especially on the phone, and the manager here helped me figure out what size unit would be best for my needs before just rattling off a list of prices when I asked.

Prices: Those same prices were another major reason I decided to choose the US Storage Centers Torrance Storage location. The Torrance Storage prices were very competitive, and combined with all the other assets of this particular storage company, the prices made me feel like I'm getting the best value for my money, which is way more important to me than just having the best prices in town.

Security: I have a few somewhat valuable things to put into my storage unit while I'm clearing space for my mower, so I wanted to make sure that I would have a good storage unit with good security. I don't need all the bells and whistles, just a system that will deter people from breaking into my unit and that will make it more likely to find someone if they do break into the unit. The individual alarms on the units at US Storage Centers Torrance Storage meet this criterion for sure.

When Torrance Storage is a Good Paperwork Storage Option

As an accountant, I deal with lots of paperwork for lots of people. The problem is that some people just don't know how to keep all that paperwork organized, but keeping it organized is a huge time saver in the long run! If you're a small business owner or even and individual in the Torrance area, I would highly recommend a Torrance Storage unit from US Storage Centers on Crenshaw if you are having trouble keeping your personal or business documents organized.

The Torrance Storage location is great, and they have good prices and excellent customer service. I recommend them to many customers of mine who simply need a little bit of extra space to make their paperwork storage a breeze. Here are some of the situations I see where it's a great idea for the person or business to take out a Torrance Storage unit for their documents and paperwork:

Tax Paperwork Storage

The biggest hassle for many businesses and even individuals with complicated taxes is often figuring out what to do with all that old tax paperwork that they're required to keep for several years at a time. If you find yourself wondering what to do with those six-year-old tax returns, Torrance Storage could be a great option for you.

A Torrance Storage unit is a good option for old tax paperwork because you can keep the paperwork in storage indefinitely, without worrying too much about moving it around whenever you rearrange your business building or home office. It's an affordable way to make sure you don't get rid of tax paperwork too early, as well, since it's important that you keep tax paperwork for the recommended amount of time, whether you're an individual or a business owner!

Important Business Documents

US Storage Centers Torrance Storage is actually a good place to keep important business documents that you have to keep for the life of your business, as well. Many documents are things that shouldn't necessarily be around for your employees to get their hands on, and you can easily keep them safe in an affordable storage unit. Unless someone is likely to be actively looking for these documents, a Torrance Storage unit with an individual alarm (which all the units at US Storage Centers do!), is a good place to store documents for your business.

An alarmed unit is a good option simply because it lets you know if someone does get into your self storage unit. It's a good way to make sure you keep your paperwork protected and to take steps to protect your information if the unit is ever compromised (which, really, isn't likely for most businesses!).

Everyday Paperwork

Unless you're the type of business that needs constant access to the paperwork you use during the course of a business day, then you can get away with keeping most of your business documents, copies, and paperwork in a Torrance Storage unit. Filing away your paperwork in a file cabinet in a Torrance Storage unit once a week or every couple of weeks is a good way to minimize the amount of paperwork you have to keep at your offices, which can keep everything more organized.

Using Self Storage for Our Physical Records

These days, when you're planning a business, one thing you may not count on is all the physical paperwork you'll have. In an age when people do almost everything online or by computer, organizing digital files is much talked about, but organizing physical ones is a lesser known art. Still, no matter how much you do online or digitally as a small business owner like myself, there's still some paperwork you'll need to have as a business owner.

Organizing that paperwork can be difficult, especially if you're dealing with limited space. Since so many of today's business owners work pretty much solely off of a laptop, finding actual space for anything that has to do with your business can be a tough task! At least, that was the case for my wife's and my web development business! For us, the US Storage Centers Torrance Self Storage location on Carson has been the perfect solution! Here's how we came across it and how it has worked for us:

Finding the idea

My wife and I looked at all sorts of different options for keeping our business documents organized and out of our way. Since we both work primarily off of laptops, we don't even have a home office. Our kitchen table doubles as our office as often as a Starbucks booth! So when we started getting piles of paperwork under and around the kitchen table, we knew we needed a different solution – and fast. Neither of us likes clutter, so the paperwork constantly around different areas of our home was driving us nuts.

One day on my way to my favorite coffee shop, I happened to drive by the US Storage Centers Torrance Self Storage location on Carson. I thought to myself that maybe they would have a good solution for storing all those piles of paperwork we hadn't been prepared to deal with when we'd started our business several months before.

So on my way back from said coffee shop, I decided to swing by the US Storage Centers location. I went in to talk to the manager, afraid that he would quote me sky high prices on huge store rooms that we couldn't afford. I was pleasantly surprised, though. The US Storage Centers Torrance Self Storage location actually had small units – just the size of a closet! – that didn't cost much at all. They would slide right into our monthly business budget, in fact.

Using the unit

So I went home to talk to my wife that night about what I'd found out about the Torrance Self Storage unit. She was as surprised as I was about the price. We were both a little skeptical about storing our paperwork off site. We weren't worried about security – the Torrance Self Storage unit was probably more secure than our own apartment! What we did worry about, though, was our own ability to use an off site organizing solution for our business paperwork.

But we decided to give it a shot. Since the US Storage Centers Torrance Self Storage location offered a month to month lease option, we didn't have to worry about breaking a lease or anything if the solution didn't work for us. If it did, we could pay for several months in advance and get a good discount on our storage unit, which was nice!

Torrance Self Storage Carson – Storing Our Furniture During a Hectic Move

Most of the time when people move across the country, they get a bit of time to plan the process. That would have been nice! When my husband was offered a promotion, we were elated. The biggest problem was that he would be required to start his new job in six weeks, and we would have to move from Indiana to California to take the position! Luckily, I'm a stay at home mom, so I didn't have to leave my own job to find a new one, especially since the promotion came with a great salary raise. But we did have to figure out how to sell our home in Indiana, move everything to California, and find a place to live out there.

Even with the raise, we couldn't afford to pay two mortgages at once, so we decided not to buy a home in California until we'd sold the house in Indiana. With our family of four, we knew we could move into a small two-bedroom apartment and just make do for a few months until we could find a nice home in Cali. The problem was that we wouldn't have room for most of our furniture and things in a small apartment, so we had to figure out what to do with them in the meantime.

Luckily, we found a Torrance Self Storage location called US Storage Centers. It was close to the area where we would eventually buy a home, and they offered great deals on the first few months of rent, so we could easily afford to rent a storage unit for our furniture while renting a small apartment. My husband arranged for the Torrance Self Storage unit on one of his pre-move trips to California when he was also signing an apartment lease.

Then, we got a UHaul, paid for moving services, and had most of our things taken to our storage unit. The unit was mostly full of furniture, especially since we'd been able to find a furnished apartment, which would keep us from having to move our furniture extra times when we found a home. We took most of the boxes and such to the apartment with us, since they were full of things we'd need.

At any rate, it was great that we were able to find the US Storage Centers Torrance Self Storage location on Carson. We were really pleased with the level of customer service that the place offered, and the prices were definitely great. The customer service was so great, in fact, that the manager of the Torrance Self Storage unit actually spent some time with my husband telling him how to get the most of our furniture storage and how to protect our furniture while it was in storage. Here are some of the tips he gave us:

Break it all down. Apparently many people forget that they can save ton of space by breaking down things like beds and dining tables. Once we figured out that all of these pieces of our furnishings would break down, we were actually able to downsize our storage unit one size, which saved us a bunch of money each month.

Torrance Storage Crenshaw – Clearing Out My Home to Sell It

When I started the process of selling my first starter home six months ago, I really had no idea what I was getting into. It's been an eye opening process, for sure! One of the first things my realtor and I did before even listing the house was to go through and talk about the way a potential buyer would see the home. We looked at things like paint colors, potential problems, and even my furniture. Most of the things were cosmetic issues that were essentially about removing any trace of personalization from the house and making it neutral – a canvas upon which potential buyers could project their own tastes and preferences.

So, I spent a few weeks painting trim and changing the colors of rooms. I even redid the tile in the kitchen with something a bit more upgraded and neutral. Then, I cleared all my own furniture out of the house. My furniture was kind of quirky, and I like it that way. But my realtor assured me that most buyers wouldn't see things that way. The furniture should be something that they could look past, not something to get stuck on like many of my conversation pieces were.

Once the house was empty, we brought in some staging furniture from my realtor's side business, and, I must admit, the house looked much more neutral and buyer-ready.

In the meantime, though, I obviously had to figure out something to do with my own furniture. My realtor suggested the US Storage Centers Torrance Storage location on Crenshaw, so I decided to check it out.

I went in to talk to the manager of the Torrance Storage location about my situation. One thing I was concerned about was signing a long-term lease. If I sold my home, I needed to be able to get out of my lease so I could get my stuff out of storage for my new home quickly without having to continue to pay for storage I didn't need. The Torrance Self Storage location had a month to month lease contract, which meant that I could get out of it whenever my home sold and I was ready to get rid of my storage unit.

The other thing that was great about the US Storage Centers Torrance Storage location on Crenshaw was that the manager was really knowledgeable about furniture storage in general. The manager was able to give me some solid tips on storing my furniture and making sure that it stayed in good condition while it was in storage.

Here are some of the tips the manager of the Torrance Storage location gave me before I put my furniture into storage:

  • Cover it up with cotton: I had planned on getting some plastic sheeting to cover my furniture with when I put it into storage, but the manager of the Torrance Storage location told me that this was actually a bad idea. Plastic can trap humid air against furniture, causing mold and mildew to form. Cotton sheets, on the other hand, can protect furniture from dust and damage while letting the furniture breathe so that mold and mildew don't form on the furniture.

Storing Baby Stuff in Torrance, Carson

Getting Ready for the Next Baby

Our daughter was just eleven months old when I got pregnant with our second baby. The close timing wasn't totally planned –trust me! But it did work out fine, thanks to our great friends and family members and also thanks, in part, to our Torrance Storage unit at a place called US Storage Centers. Our storage unit made it much easier to get ready for our second baby while we were still working on raising our first! Here's how our Carson Self Storage unit from US Storage Centers worked for us.

We decided to get a Torrance Self Storage unit when our daughter was about six months old. We knew we were going to have another baby eventually, and we wanted to save the things that our daughter was outgrowing so that we could use them for the next baby. After all, we'd requested all that baby gear in gender neutral colors for a reason! At any rate, when our daughter was starting to really outgrow a lot of her gear, we decided to start storing it away in a small Torrance Self Storage unit.

When we were looking for storage units, we had a few specific things in mind that we wanted. For one thing, we needed our storage unit to be affordable. We weren't hurting financially, but it seemed silly to pay a fortune for a personal storage unit when the point of it was to keep our daughter's baby gear so we could save money and not have to buy it all over again the next time around. The Torrance Self Storage location by US Storage Centers had good prices and small units that weren't expensive at all. It definitely fit into the monthly budget, and they even let us enroll in automatic payments, so we didn't have to worry about missing payments if I forgot to write a check one month!

Another reason that we chose that Carson Self Storage location was that it was close to home, and we felt very secure leaving our things there. When the manager first went over the individually alarmed units, security cameras, and other security features of the location, we were quite impressed. Besides that, we got to tour the actual units. They all looked very well built and water tight, so we knew we wouldn't have to worry about water damage or similar problems.

So, we started slowly storing up our daughter's used baby items in the storage unit. When we found out we were pregnant again, it became even more important to us, though. In fact, we temporarily upgraded to a larger unit so we could use it to get ready for our next baby's arrival.

Storing Baby's Off Season Stuff

They say you don't realize until you become a parent just how much stuff babies can come with. That's totally true, but the thing is that much of that stuff isn't even used year-round! I discovered this when my son was a few months old. Babies don't usually have a stash of off-season clothes until they're a year old or more, since they grow into a new size with each season, but they do have lots of off-season gear. With my small home, I just didn't have room to store the off-season stuff my baby needed, so I started looking into Torrance Storage solutions near my home. Luckily, I was able to find a place called US Storage Centers, where I can now store my son's off-season baby gear until I need it around again.

What kind of off-season baby gear do I store at my Torrance Storage unit, you might ask? Well, for the summer, I had a baby pool and a framed hiking backpack for my son. We also had a little shade tent that we used when we would go to the beach, plus the beach toys that I bought on sale at the end of the summer for him to play with the next year. (He wasn't really old enough to play with them at the time!) For the winter, I had a snow suit I'd gotten on sale, along with a car seat cover and some other things we used when we were visiting family in colder regions during the holidays. It wasn't a whole lot of stuff, but it was enough to clutter up my home a little, and I wanted it out until I needed it again.

A Torrance Storage unit sounded like the perfect solution, as long as it didn't break the bank. Luckily, I came across the US Storage Centers Torrance Storage location, and I was able to get the smallest possible unit with a great deal that saved me a bunch of money. Even the regular price of the unit wasn't much, though, so I could definitely afford to have a storage unit that could hold my son's off season baby gear without having to break my monthly budget.

One of the great parts about the Torrance Storage location, too, is that I can pay my bill online. With the types of stuff I'm storing in the unit, I don't really visit it often, and it would be a big hassle to have to drop off a check or money order every month when rent is due. It's really nice to be able to just get online and pay my bill whenever it's due.

Getting the Kids' Stuff Out of the Way

When you have a large family with a bunch of kids who play sports, you don't even know how quickly your entire home can get taken over by sporting goods stuff. Every season, it seems like we drop a small fortune on new equipment for baseball or basketball or swimming, even! The problem is that since all our kids are in multiple sports, we also don't get rid of much of their sporting goods equipment because there's always something we can reuse later on down the road. So the equipment for every imaginable sport just piles up around the house and garage until I can hardly stand it anymore. Luckily, though, we now have a Torrance Self Storage unit at a location called US Storage Centers, so we can get all that sporting gear out of the way!

It took me a ridiculously long time to even come up with the idea of using a Carson Self Storage unit to solve the problem we had with our home literally overflowing with junk from the kids' sports. For a while, I tried to talk the kids into scaling back on their sports so we could just get rid of some stuff, but that was not happening any time soon. Then, we tried keeping everything organized in our home, but, again, that just didn't work. Finally, I happened to drive by US Storage Center Carson Self Storage location one day, and it just clicked. That was what we needed, of course!

At first, my husband thought it would be way too expensive to justify renting an actual self storage unit just to take the kids' sports equipment, but I was determined to at least see how much it was going to cost. One day, I ran over to the Torrance Self Storage center to talk with the manager about how self storage worked and how much a personal storage unit would cost us.

I was pleasantly surprised at the low prices, especially since we just needed a small storage unit. After all, it's amazing how much you can fit into a closet-sized space when you can literally stack it up to the ceiling. Plus, our Torrance Self Storage unit would not hold all the sporting equipment we had at any given time. Instead, it would just hold the off-season equipment. Whenever the kids started a new season of sports, we would go rotate out what was in the storage unit so that the items for that particular season would be more accessible in our home.

Storing My Gear for Deep Sea Fishing

Deep sea fishing is something that my family has always done, and I now run a small part-time business taking people deep sea fishing on the weekends when it's really nice here in Torrance. Although I don't own my own boat, I have a ton of deep sea fishing gear, including all sorts of rods and tackle. Obviously, the gear ends up taking up a ton of space, so it's not practical for me to store it all at home or in my small garage. That would make me and my wife both crazy! So, instead of worrying about finding a spot at home for storing my gear, I actually rent a Torrance Storage unit through a place called US Storage Centers, where I can keep all my deep sea fishing gear.

There are a few reasons that the Torrance Storage unit makes sense for me as business storage. For one thing, it's affordable. It's also very secure, and it's easy to access. All three of these things were very important to me when I was choosing the right storage facility for my business's needs, and the US Storage Centers Torrance Storage location fit my needs perfectly.

Of course, when it comes to business storage, the main thing is to make sure you aren't upping the overhead costs of your business too much. Even though the fishing business is just a side thing for me, I still like to actually make money on it, which is why I called around to several area storage units before settling on the Torrance Storage location I use now. Because the location is used to working with business storage and offers some great discounts, and because they have units of the perfect size for my needs – neither too large and expensive nor too small – they were a great option for me price-wise.

The available sizes of units at a storage location was very important to me because I needed to be able to organize my deep sea fishing gear without having to cram it into a closet-sized space. On the other hand, I didn't exactly need a hundred square feet of storage space, and I certainly didn't want to pay for that much! The 5x10 unit size at the Torrance Storage location was perfect for me, since it was a bit of an in between size that allowed me to stay organized without having to sacrifice too much money to pay for extra storage space.

My Self Storage Story - Torrance, Carson

Running My Garage Sale Business

I've always been a big bargain shopper, but I only recently thought about turning it into an actual side income. As a stay at home mom, I'm always looking for little ways to save money or to even bring in a little extra to supplement my husband's income. It's not easy, though, with three kids under the age of five! But I do love going to garage sales, and when I friend suggested I make garage sales my business, I was intrigued, to say the least. Here's the story of my garage sale business and how I couldn't have survived without my Torrance Storage unit at a place called US Storage Centers.

I'm one of those women who can always find the best price at garage sales, which is partially because of the fact that I'm not afraid to bargain and haggle to get a better deal. I like to swoop in at the last minute, just before someone closes up shop for the evening, and offer a lowball price for a whole table full of kids' clothes. It's so worth it, even if I end up having to pull out and throw away a few items that are too stained to allow my kids to wear in public! Even before the last minute, though, I guess I just have a good eye for deals and for the people who are most likely to bargain with me for their garage sale stuff.

At any rate, I've heard of other people having garage sale businesses before, but I never really knew how it worked. My friend who suggested it explained that it was just all about turning a profit. I'd go to garage sales, scoop up items that were underpriced, and sell them for a higher price later on – either at a garage sale of my own, to a resale shop, or on Craigslist or eBay. I did a little research, and it seemed like a pretty legitimate way to use my shopping prowess to make a few extra bucks.

The problem was figuring out what I was going to do with all that garage sale stuff between the buying and the selling phase. Heaven knows that in our four bedroom house, there just wasn't enough extra space for me to dump it all in a closet or the garage! We had enough junk of our own taking up space as it was! So, I started researching storage options, and that's when I found a Torrance Storage place called US Storage Centers. The Torrance Storage location was pretty convenient to my home, and it was secure and clean.

At first, I just rented the smallest unit the Torrance Storage location offered, and it was enough. I spent a few weekends going to garage sales and stashing up on stuff that was really good but that had been underpriced. Then, I spent a few days online figuring out the best way to get rid of it all. Clothes didn't seem to sell all that well on eBay or even Craigslist, but I knew I could take many of the nicer things to resale shops. So, I went to the Torrance Storage unit and started sorting clothes by season, since most resale shops will only take seasonal, fashionable items. Then, I took the summer items into a resale shop and made a pretty decent profit on them. That was just the beginning!

Pretty soon, I was selling electronics and appliances on eBay and Craigslist, and I was going to garage sales every single weekend. Within a few months, I had to upgrade to a larger Torrance Self Storage unit because I simply had too many things coming and going at once to deal with. Once my little side business became kind of a big thing, my husband even encouraged me to get a larger 10x10 unit, and he helped me put metal shelving around the edges so that I could more easily see what I had in the Torrance Storage unit.

Luckily, the US Storage Centers Torrance Storage location was used to working with business people who needed to access their storage units at random times, and the gate hours were never a problem for me. I felt really secure knowing that all my goods were protected in a great storage unit with a door alarm, since once in a while I'd score a pretty valuable item at a garage sale!

Recently, I've been getting into antiques and collectibles, and my Torrance Storage unit is just full of them. It's amazing how many times people won't take the time to figure out what their old items are worth before they slap a price tag on them at the garage sale. Sure, sometimes I have trouble offloading the stuff that's stored in my Torrance Storage unit, but other times, I pay pennies on the dollar for what the stuff is worth! It's been a bit of a wild ride, and I definitely couldn't have made my garage sale business work without my US Storage Centers Torrance Storage unit!

My Self Storage Story - Torrance, Crenshaw

A Place for My Dolls

I started collecting dolls when I was just a little girl. That very first doll was one I received for my fourth birthday, and I still have her on display in the middle of my living room. Now, I collect all sorts of dolls, and most of them have a story or occasion or memory that goes with them. My grandkids love buying me new dolls for my birthday or Mother's Day, and I just love seeing all the new little baby dolls and china dolls that they find wherever they can get them! The problem, though, is that my home was just becoming overrun by all these collectible dolls, and I wasn't sure what to do with them until I found my Torrance Self Storage unit at a place called US Storage Centers.

For a collector like me, getting rid of one's collection – or even pieces of it – is unthinkable. My dolls were a part of my history, and, like I said, they all had some connection to a happy memory or occasion. Often times, I have even taped the card that came with each doll to the back of her box so that I would be able to remember exactly where and who she came from!

Even though I didn't want to get rid of my dolls, I didn’t want to become one of those crazy old ladies whose home was totally overrun with stuff that you simply couldn't walk in the place! So, I set out to find a solution to the issue, and that's when I found US Storage Centers Carson Self Storage. It was close to home, and affordable, and it was quite secure. I felt comfortable leaving some of my dolls in storage there until I could decide what to do with them further.

So, I went in and talked to the manager about getting a suitable storage unit for my dolls. He was very friendly and helpful, and he gave me a few tricks, like putting down wood pallets in the bottom of my storage unit so that the condensation from the concrete wouldn't seep into my boxes and ruin any of my collectible dolls. I was very thankful for that particular tip, let me tell you!
