Finding Room for Our Personal Paperwork One thing they don't really tell you when you're growing up is that being an adult comes with lots of important paperwork. You have to deal with stuff like marriage licenses and tax returns that you have to keep for nearly a decade. It's kind of ridiculous how much paperwork is involved in being an adult. So when you're trying to make do with as small a home as possible so that you can save money for the future, you've got to figure out a good place to put all that personal paperwork. I mean, just the tax documents alone can take up a significant portion of your open space if you aren't careful! When my wife and I were trying to figure out where we were going to put all the paperwork we didn't need to use in everyday life, we decided it was time to check out a Montrose Self Storageunit. It seemed like a self storage unit would be a secure and affordable solution, and it would probably cost way less than moving into a bigger place that had room for our paperwork and tax returns. Boy, were we right! We checked out a few different storage places in the area, but we settled on US Storage Centers Montrose Self Storage. The location was great, and the prices were surprisingly affordable. One thing that we loved about the US Storage Centers Montrose Self Storage location as soon as we walked in was the fact that they had excellent customer service. The manager was friendly from the start, and he was great about showing us the different units and helping us decide what size we would need. We had decided when looking at Montrose Self Storage units that if we were going to get a storage unit, anyway, we might as well get one large enough for a file cabinet along with a few other odds and ends that didn't really have a place in our home at the moment. So we went with the second to the smallest unit at the US Storage Centers Montrose Self Storage location, which was quite affordable. The US Storage Centers Montrose Self Storage location also appealed to us because they had good security. I mean, it's not like anyone intentionally breaks into a storage unit looking for personal and tax paperwork, but it could happen. And, of course, there's lots of information on those forms that people could use to steal our identities or something! |

Montrose – Storing Mom's Heirloom Furniture When my mom died last year, it was obviously a difficult time for my brother and I. It was also very busy. It took weeks to get the funeral planned and to deal with mom's finances and legal issues. Anyway, the last thing we did was to clean out mom's home to get it ready to sell or rent. We got rid of tons of stuff. As older people are wont to do, mom had kept a lot of stuff she really didn't need, so we ended up having a Goodwill truck actually come to the house to take away all the things that we had no use for. We each kept a few keepsake items, but we generally left everything to go to Goodwill. One of the problems, though, was mom's heirloom furniture. She had a few pieces our father had built years ago, and a few that she had been given by her grandmother upon her marriage. There were a couple of pieces that were four or five generations old! Obviously, you don't just give something like that to Goodwill. But, neither of us could figure out what to do with the pieces right away, either. I think we were just too emotionally exhausted to deal with it. So, instead of trying to figure it all out when we really couldn't deal with the problem well, we decided to rent a Montrose Self Storage unit for the heirloom furniture for a few months until we could decide what to do with it. We looked around for a bit, and we came across the US Storage Centers Montrose Self Storage center. The center was clean and neat, and it was well-lit. Those were good signs when we drove in on a Saturday afternoon to see about possibly renting a unit. The other thing that really struck us about the US Storage Centers Montrose Self Storage center was that the manager was so kind. He understood completely, after being apprised of the situation, why it was so important to us that we have really secure storage that was clean, waterproof, and rodent free. We weren't just dealing with college furniture here! These were gorgeous pieces with lots of meaning behind them! The manager really got it. He took us to show us the security system on the Montrose Self Storage location, which was impressive. Then, he showed us inside a unit, and we were impressed with how clean and neat it was. He even gave us some great tips on how to store our furniture so that it would be in just as good of shape coming out as it was when we put it into storage. Here are a few of the tips he gave us: Protect it with cotton: The manager suggested that we get some cotton sheets (mom had about half a million that we could use!) to cover the furniture with. The dust would stay off of it better that way, and cotton could breathe better than plastic, which could trap moisture against the furniture and cause mildew or mold. |
