My Off Site Garden Shed

When you have a small home with a decent-sized back yard, one thing that you need is space for gardening supplies. At least, that's the case with me! I love to garden, but there's really no room in my home to keep all my gardening supplies, and my garage doesn't have enough room for my supplies, either. I suppose I could put a gardening shed in the back yard, but that would block some of my wonderful sunlight and would leave me without room for my porch swing in the back yard!

That's why I have my unique little off site garden shed at US Storage Centers Covina Self Storage location. A friend of mine used a self storage unit a few years ago for basically extra garage space. When I heard he had done that, I thought, "Why not use a storage unit for a garden shed?" The idea is kind of different, but it makes a lot of sense to me!

So for several months now, I've been renting a very small unit at US Storage Centers Covina Self Storage to basically expand my gardening tool space. There's plenty of room in that little storage unit for all the fertilizers and solutions and tools and equipment that I need to keep my backyard and garden in perfect condition, and the self storage unit idea has been a great one to help me keep my lawn and garden in tip top shape.

Renting the Storage Unit

The process of finding a storage unit to rent was a little difficult. My friend didn't use US Storage Centers, and the storage place he did use was a little too far from my home for my comfort. So that left me checking out different self storage locations around Covina. It was tough going because some didn't have good security, and some didn't have the smaller unit size I needed. Others were just really a mess!

I was really thankful when I came across US Storage Centers Covina Self Storage. They have very small units that are just perfect for a little off site garden shed like I needed. I really don't need much space because I don't keep big equipment like a tiller. I rent that stuff when I need it.

The smaller sized unit is great, too, because of the cost. I don't have a ton of extra money to budget for something like my Covina Self Storage unit, so I wanted to make sure I could get something that didn't cost a fortune. The low monthly costs offered by US Storage Centers Covina Self Storage location were great, and I even got a special deal for the first couple of months that saved me even more money!

Storing Business Paperwork Offsite

As a business owner, I'm always looking for ways to streamline things and to make my business more efficient. One solution for efficiency that I've hit on in recent years is storing my business's paperwork off site. This allows me to keep the paperwork as organized as possible without cluttering up a room in my offices unnecessarily with the tons of file cabinets needed to store all the paperwork that I need to keep over a certain time period.

I've been using off site Covina Self Storage for several years now, and, let me tell you, it's great year-round, but it's especially beneficial during tax season. The off site storage location means that I can give just a couple of trusted employees access to the company's physical files, which keeps things more secure, and it means that when it's time for the accountant to do the taxes, everything is right there and ready to go!

Things I Keep in Covina Self Storage

A few years ago, I had an entire room in my offices dedicated to keeping files, but when I needed to expand the business, I knew I was going to need that space for a new employee work room. So, I checked into Covina Self Storage solutions and came across US Storage Centers. The US Storage Centers Covina Self Storage location had great security and excellently built units that were a good size for storing file cabinets and keeping them accessible. It was really important to me that I find a storage unit where my files would still be easy to get to, and that's exactly what I found with US Storage Centers Covina Self Storage.

Covina - Storing the Nursery Furniture for Baby #2

When we had our first baby, we were a little overly excited and went out to buy a really expensive, really nice nursery set. Looking back, we probably wouldn't do that again if we had an option. But since we have this heirloom quality baby furniture, we figure we'd better keep it around for the next baby, or we will have wasted our money. Heck, we'll probably keep this furniture for our very-distant-future grandbabies. That's how expensive and nice it is!

Luckily for us, we found affordable storage at the US Storage Centers Covina Self Storage location. We don't have room in our home to store the baby furniture for the next time around. In fact, between our baby now and the next baby, we'll probably have to move into a bigger place with another bedroom for the new baby! But the Covina Self Storage location has great prices for furniture storage, so it's an affordable solution we can use until we do have room to keep that heirloom furniture at home.

One of the things we were concerned about with storing our nursery furniture in our Covina Self Storage unit was damage to the furniture. We'd heard stories of friends who had stored stuff in similar storage units only to pull it out and find it had been damaged by rodents, had water damage, or had been scratched or dented getting it into and out of storage. We didn't want anything like that to happen to our nursery furniture, so we talked to the manager about what we could do to prevent it.

He assured us that the US Storage Centers Covina Self Storage location was well-protected against rodents and water leakage, and then he gave us some tips to store our furniture that would allow for more compact storage and would keep everything safe. Here are some of the tips he gave us:

  • Choose the right unit: It's actually really hard to estimate the size of unit you need if you aren't experienced in self storage. That's why it's a good idea to talk with an experienced manager like the one at the US Storage Centers Covina Self Storage location. The manager there was able to help us find a unit that wasn't too big or too small. A too-large unit means you're paying for extra square footage you don't need, and a too-small unit means you'll have to jam the furniture together too closely, which is a recipe for damaged furniture and even for mold because air can't flow between the pieces!

Storing Baby Stuff in Covina

In Between Babies

From the time I was little, I always knew I'd be a mom of multiple kids. I just was never one of those people who wanted a career and one kid – or no kids at all! When I met my husband, it was great because he wanted a bunch of kids, too. These days, we know more and more people are just having one kid because they can be so expensive to raise, but we've found ways to cut back on the cost of raising kids so we can afford to have more than just one or two. One of the best ways we know of to save money is to save hand-me-downs from one kid to the next! With the help of our US Storage Centers Covina Self Storage unit, we're able to save nearly everything from one kid to the next without having to worry about what to do with it when we're in between babies.

We came up with the idea of using a Covina Self Storage unit for this purpose when our first little girl was about eighteen months old. She had outgrown everything from her infant car seat to her play gym to her crib, and we weren't at all sure where we were going to put all that stuff! We'd gotten everything new and in neutral colors, knowing that we would use it for the next baby – who could, of course, end up being a boy! We knew we wanted to save it all, since we'd probably start trying to expand our family in another six months or so, but we weren't sure where to put it.

At that point, we were only in a two bedroom house, and there just wasn't a ton of extra space for storing things we didn't need in the immediate future. So, we looked around online and found US Storage Centers Covina Self Storage location. The Covina Self Storage location was close to our home, so we went to check it out.

We liked what we saw pretty much immediately. The location was clean and well-kept, and the individual units were tidy and secure. It would be easy for us to get our items into and out of storage when we needed them, and the units weren't all that expensive, either. Since the point of saving our daughter's toys and essentials was to save money in the long run, this was obviously really important to us!

One thing we really liked about the Covina Self Storage location by US Storage Centers was that we didn't need to worry about something happening to the baby items we had in storage. The unit we rented had its own alarm. That was kind of a worst-case scenario, though – the manager having to check out the unit because of the alarm going off. Break ins were rare at the Covina Self Storage location, probably because the manager lived on site and the location was so well-lit.

Sports & Storage - Covina

Deep Sea Fishing Storage

Getting into deep sea fishing can be pretty expensive. Look around online, and you'll find full tackle sets for catching specific types of fish that go for over $10,000! Luckily for me, I've been deep sea fishing for a while, and by borrowing, begging, and buying used, I've created quite a collection of deep sea fishing gear. The problem, though, is that it takes so much gear if you want to catch different types of fish on a deep sea fishing trip, and that gear takes up a lot of room! I don't have a ton of space in my apartment, so I was glad to find a Covina Self Storage location called US Storage Centers.

US Storage Centers Covina Self Storage didn't automatically present itself as a solution for my deep sea fishing problem. For a while, I actually considered selling off some of my gear because I was just running out of room. Literally, the entire second bedroom in my apartment was crammed with saltwater reels, boxes of saltwater lures, nets, and all sorts of other things I used when I went fishing. It was getting a little ridiculous.

But who thinks of renting a Covina Self Storage unit when they're running out of space for their sports equipment? I mean, when most people think of storage units, they think of dusty old spaces that they access maybe once or twice a year. I go fishing way more than that, so I definitely needed to be able to access my fishing gear more easily than I thought I'd be able to if it were in a storage unit.

Lucky for me, a friend of mine convinced me to at least go down and talk to the manager at this Covina Self Storage place. See, he'd used a storage unit for his camping gear the year before, so he was pretty convinced it would be a good solution for me, too.

So, I went and talked to the manager one Saturday morning. What I found out kind of blew me away. The size of storage unit I would need was pretty affordable, especially with the specials US Storage Centers always seems to be running. Plus, I could get a month-to-month lease. If the storage unit wasn't working out for whatever reason, I wasn't locked into it at all. I figured if for no other reason than that one, I should at least give it a shot!

My Self Storage Story - Covina

Storing My Dad's Extra Stuff

It can be pretty hard, I think, to transition a parent from an independent living situation to one in which they're living in an assisted living apartment or home. I know it was a tough transition with my dad, and I wouldn't have been able to do it all without the support of the assisted living home as well as a Covina Self Storage location called US Storage Centers. It seems weird that Covina Self Storage made the transition so much easier, but there are a few reasons why this was true. Here are just a few of them:

  • Covina Self Storage made it easy and affordable to get storage. In these tough times, no one needs to pay extra every month for something they don't really need. Let me tell you, though, we really did need the extra storage space during my dad's transition time. Plus, the storage units weren't all that expensive, and the manager helped us get the right size the first time so that we didn't end up paying for extra space we didn't need.
  • Covina Self Storage let us move my dad out more slowly. Sometimes the worst part of moving is feeling like you have to get it all done at once. When we got the storage unit, though, my siblings and I were able to slowly sort through dad's old things. While it was difficult, we were able to weed out some items that he didn't really need and that didn't have much sentimental value. Those that might be needed in the future – or that we just treasured too much to get rid of – we could move into storage as we found them. Instead of having to have all the boxes packed and ready to go at once, we were able to move things around over a few weeks.
  • It was actually a lot easier to sell the old house because we had a unit at Covina Self Storage. You might not think about this much, but do you know how much junk collects in a home someone has lived in for thirty years? It's a lot! And as any good realtor will tell you, having a house full of stuff is just not conducive to selling the home. With our storage facilities, we were able to move all the extra stuff out of dad's house before we listed it, so we could stage the house much more easily. It took a while, but the house finally sold. I'm pretty convinced it never would have if we had just left all those old family photos and memorabilia in the house during showings!
  • We still have a personal storage unit at the Covina Self Storage location of US Storage Centers, and it's really helpful to dad. The assisted living place he's at now is nice and roomy, but there's just not a lot of room for extras. Now, we keep off-season clothes and even Christmas decorations that he still uses in the front of his storage unit. When it's time to get them out, we know just where to find them. It's saved my siblings and I from having to find spots in our already overcrowded homes where we could store all of dad's essentials!
